Remarks of the Spokesperson of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto on False Accusation of China’s Intimidation of a Canadian MP and His Relatives
2023-05-05 02:36

Recently, certain Canadian media and politicians have been intentionally hyping accusations that consular officer from the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto was involved in the so-called intimidation of a Canadian Member of Parliament and his relatives. The claim has no factual basis and is totally groundless. We express strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to it.

The Chinese Consulate General in Toronto has always followed the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and the Consular Agreement Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Canada. Consular officers have never engaged in activities inconsistent with their official capacities. Those Canadian media and politicians have been spreading disinformation with intent to damage the reputation and image of the Chinese Consulate General, and maliciously disrupt normal exchange and cooperation between the two sides. We urge the relevant media and politicians to respect the facts and immediately stop spreading rumours and stigmatizing.
