On October 11, Acting Consul General Cheng Hongbo attended the cultural performance and themed photo exhibition celebrating the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, hosted by the Confederation of Toronto Chinese Canadian Organizations (CTCCO). Several hundred people attended the event, including Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham, Ontario, representatives of major local Chinese community organizations, and people from various sectors of the community.

In his remarks, Acting Consul General Cheng highlighted the remarkable development of the People’s Republic of China over the past 77 years. He emphasized that a stable, prosperous and thriving China has always been a positive force for safeguarding world peace and promoting global development, and that China’s door to opening up will only open wider, bringing more opportunities to countries around the world, including Canada. He also recognized the contributions of the CTCCO and other Chinese community organizations in the consular district to advancing China-Canada relations, supporting Canada’s economic and social development, and promoting the development of their ancestral homeland and hometowns. He encouraged these organizations to continue fostering unity among overseas Chinese in the consular district, play their unique role in advancing the building of a new Strategic Partnership between China and Canada, and contribute actively to the continued improvement and development of the bilateral relations.
