On July 26, Deputy Consul General Cheng Hongbo attended the “Remembering the History, Creating the Future” commemorative event marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The event was organized by the Association of Descendants of Huangpu Alumni of Canada and Hong Maple, with participation from approximately 200 attendees including representatives from the Canadian government, descendants of military officers who fought in the war, major Chinese community organizations, academics, media, and students.

In his speech, Deputy Consul General Cheng reviewed the arduous course and far-reaching significance of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression under the banner of the anti-Japanese national united front initiated by the Communist Party of China. He acknowledged the patriotic spirit and noble sacrifice of overseas Chinese communities, including those in Canada, who answered the call of their homeland during times of national crisis. He encouraged overseas Chinese in the consular district to maintain strong confidence in the history and its significance, keep the memory of the past alive, carry forward the great spirit of resisting aggression, safeguard the hard-won outcomes of World War II and international justice, and continue to contribute to the building of a strong and prosperous homeland and national rejuvenation. He expressed hope that the Chinese community would serve as a bridge and link for China-Canada friendship.

An exhibition of historical photos and wartime artifacts was held simultaneously at the venue, vividly showcasing the indomitable spirit of the Chinese people during the war and the unforgettable contributions of overseas Chinese to the resistance efforts.
