On May 19, Consul General Luo Weidong attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Lanting Garden of Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto and delivered remarks. Senator Yuen Pau Woo and representatives from three levels of Canadian government and guests from various sectors supporting the garden project attended event. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney sent a greeting letter for the groundbreaking.

Consul General Luo stated that Chinese gardens embody Eastern aesthetic wisdom and the philosophy of harmony between humanity and nature. The Centre will bring elegant Chinese scenery to the local area, contributing to showcasing the unique charm of Chinese culture and promoting the development of multiculturalism in Canada. He expressed his hope that the construction of the Lanting Garden would serve as an opportunity to further deepen cultural exchanges between China and Canada, promoting mutual learning and people-to-people bonds.

Inspired by the "Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion", or known as“Lanting Xu” by Chinese calligrapher Wang Xizhi, the Lanting Garden project integrates traditional garden design, distinctive plant landscapes, and cultural exhibition spaces. Upon completion, it is expected to become a new landmark in the Greater Toronto Area for promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture and fostering community interaction.
