On February 15th, Consul General Luo Weidong attended 2026“Happy Chinese New Year” Overseas Chinese Opera Spring Festival Gala and delivered remarks. Over 600 guests and audiences watched the performance.

Consul General Luo stated that this performance showcased the unique charm of Chinese opera, serving as a vivid practice of promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture and a New Year's gift to the local Chinese community. He noted that Prime Minister Carney's recent successful visit to China has brought China-Canadian relations to a new era, bringing new opportunities for cultural exchanges between the two countries. Starting February 17th, China has implemented visa-free policy for Canadians, and we believe it will further promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Canada in various fields.

This event is part of the 2026 "Happy Chinese New Year" series. The organizer, the Canada China Cultural and Economic Development Alliance, invited An Ping, a renowned Peking Opera artist from Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company, to join local Peking opera artists and enthusiasts in presenting a Spring Festival Gala encompassing multiple Chinese opera genres and performance styles.
