On February 13, Consul General Luo Weidong attended the China National Peking Opera Company's Canadian tour –2026 Happy Chinese New Year Peking Opera Gala held at the Winter Garden Theatre and delivered remarks. More than 900 guests and audience including representatives from three levels of Canadian governments attended the performance.

Consul General Luo stated that Peking Opera is a national treasure of China and also renowned worldwide. Tonight's performance vividly showcased excellent traditional Chinese culture and brought New Year blessings to local overseas Chinese and friends. Prime Minister Carney's recent successful visit to China resulted in important consensus between the two countries, ushering in a new opportunity for cultural exchanges. The Consulate General will continue to support cultural and artistic exchanges and cooperation, promoting mutual learning between civilizations and people-to-people bonds.

This performance is part of Toronto's "Happy Chinese New Year" series, featuring renowned artists such as Yu Kuizhi and Li Shengsu, who joined local opera performers in this gala. Recently, a cultural salon event was held featuring a dialogue between the National Peking Opera Company and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
