On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada, Deputy Consul General Cheng Hongbo was recently invited to give an exclusive interview to "Voice of Canada" a mainstream talk show in the consular district(https://youtu.be/8IhM0KWjZR0?si=Q7AwdSpJX2G7GBS4).

Deputy Consul General Cheng stated that China's economy remains stable and sound, with innovation playing an increasingly important role, the business environment continuing to improve, and the country pressing ahead with Chinese modernization. China will unswervingly expand its opening-up, providing opportunities for countries around the world, including Canada. He noted that China-Canada relations once led China's ties with Western countries, and that both sides should, on the basis of equality and mutual respect, seek common ground while reserving differences, expand mutually beneficial cooperation in energy and green development, increase people-to-people exchanges, and work together to tackle global challenges such as public health security and climate change.

Deputy Consul General Cheng emphasized that the foundation of China-Canada relations lies in the societies, and its vitality comes from exchanges at sub-national levels. He expressed the hope that overseas Chinese and all people with vision in the consular district would continue to contribute their wisdom and strength to advancing exchanges and friendship between the two countries. The Consulate General, he added, will continue to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and institutions, and serve as a bridge for cooperation between the consular district and China.

Deputy Consul General Cheng also pointed out that the United States' tariff measures seriously violate WTO rules and the principles of free trade, and have severely disrupted the stability of global supply chains. The recent China-U.S. economic and trade consultations achieved positive outcomes, demonstrating that both sides are capable of finding mutually acceptable solutions to complex issues.

“Voice of Canada” is an English-language interview program produced by AWAZ TV, featuring nearly a hundred episodes with representatives from politics, business, and academia, as well as diplomats from various countries in Canada, reaching an audience of over one million viewers.
