The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto initiated an emergency response to the kidnapping

According to information provided by Canadian police, a Chinese student was kidnapped in Markham, Ontario at around 6pm Saturday March 23rd 2019. The York Regional Police (YRP) is investigating the incident and seeking to locate the victim.
 
The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto attaches great importance to this case and immediately activated the consular protection emergency mechanism. We contacted the YRP for all relevant details, asked them to spare no efforts to rescue the victim safely, and take concrete measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens within our consular district. We also contacted the victim's family immediately after we learned the news and informed them of the situation.
 
Going forward, the Consulate General will continue to follow the progress of the investigation, while maintaining close communication with the police, the student's university, family, and other parties involved. We will provide all necessary assistance within the scope of our duties.
