2025-05-20 14:05

On May 18, Consul General Luo Weidong attended and delivered a speech at Ode to Peace, a large-scale musical and dance epic that was part of a series of events organized by the local Chinese community to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. More than 1,300 attendees, including former Canadian Senator Victor Oh and representatives from various sectors and ethnic communities, watched the performance.

In his speech, Consul General Luo briefly reviewed the arduous and heroic journey of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, highlighting its profound historical significance. He emphasized the shared struggle of China and Canada in the fight against fascism, which stands as a shining example of international cooperation. He noted that commemorative events serve to draw lessons from history and look toward the future—to learn from the past, cherish and safeguard peace, promote an accurate understanding of World War II history, and uphold the post-war international order and global fairness and justice.

Ode to Peace was co-organized by the Canadian Association of Chinese Performing Arts and other Chinese community associations. Over 600 performers and crew members—primarily of Chinese descent and from more than 30 groups across the Greater Toronto Area—collaborated in this multicultural production.
