On October 11, Cheng Hongbo, Acting Consul General of PRC in Toronto, attended the Yellow River Cantata 85th Anniversary Premiere and 75th Anniversary of the Canadian Premiere Commemorative Concert. About 300 people, both from the Chinese community and other ethnic groups attended the event.
Mr. Cheng said in his speech, that the Yellow River Cantata, a landmark in the history of Chinese modern music, has profound historical significance, contemporary connotation and global influence. It highlights the Chinese nation's spirit of dogged determination and dedication, and inspires generations of Chinese people to continuously advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation by keeping the country in mind and upholding the overall interests of the Chinese nation. The Yellow River Cantata premiered in Canada in the 1940s, whose strong artistry resonants with the local audience of all ethnic groups. Its core values of pursuing peace and freedom and safeguarding fairness and justice for all mankind are also consistent with the mainstream social values of Canada. As next year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, this event is of more special significance.
This concert was hosted by the Canadian NeoVoce Philharmonic Choir and was jointly presented by the Tsinghua University Toronto Alumni Choir, and the Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra (GTPO). Musicians of multiple ethnicities brought Chinese and Western artistic style together, winning widespread praise from the audience.
