The Chinese Consulate General in Toronto welcomes the passing of the motion recognizing December 13th in each year as “Nanjing Massacre Commemorative Day” in the Province of Ontario. Passing the motion shows respect for history, and is a righteous action for safeguarding peace.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre. The Nanjing Massacre was a grave crime committed by the Japanese militarists during the World War II, and shocked the world’s conscience. After the World War II, both the International Military Tribunal for the Far East and China's war crimes tribunal conducted investigations into the Nanjing Massacre and made final verdicts. It is hoped that this motion will encourage every kind-hearted person to make commitment towards peace. Only by drawing lessons from history in a profound manner and taking history as a mirror, can we avoid the repetition of the tragedy of war, and truly uphold peace, and usher in the future.
