On October 27, Acting Consul General Cheng Hongbo attended 2024 Chinese Language Teachers Seminar and delivered remarks.
Acting Consul General Cheng emphasized that Chinese is not only the language of China but also a global language. The Chinese government has been committed to promoting high-level educational openness and consistently supported the establishment of an open and inclusive international Chinese education system. As China's economic and social development and comprehensive national strength continue to rise, the international influence of the Chinese language is growing. Chinese language is playing an important role in building a community with a shared future for mankind. Currently, the development of international Chinese education faces historical opportunities and broad prospects, with increasing tendency towards digitization, networking, specialization, and localization, the major focus has shifted from quantity to quality, posing new challenges for international Chinese educators. It is hoped that the Chinese language teachers could act as practitioners of international Chinese education, promoters of Sino-Canadian friendship, and disseminators of excellent Chinese culture.
The seminar was hosted by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto. Consul for Education Li Renzhu and Chinese language teachers and educators from various institutions attended the seminar, including Chinese Culture and Education Society of Canada, Department of East Asian Studies of University of Toronto, University of Toronto Scarborough and Mississauga campuses, Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Waterloo, Queen's University, Trent University, Seneca College, the Toronto District School Board, the York Catholic District School Board, Grand River Collegiate Institute in Waterloo and Bond International College. They engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on the Chinese language teaching scale, effectiveness, planning, textbooks, and best practices.
