On February 16, 2025, Consul General Luo Weidong hosted a Chinese New Year Celebration for Chinese Bridge Competition Winners at his residence and delivered an enthusiastic speech.
Consul General Luo emphasized that the ‘Chinese Bridge’ competition is the most widely recognized and participated high-level Chinese language competition worldwide. It serves as not only a platform for Chinese learners from different countries to showcase their language skills and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, but also a bridge fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchanges between China and the world. Since its inception in 2002, nearly 1.6 million young participants from 160 countries have taken part in the regional finals, with over 7,000 outstanding contestants invited to China for the final competition. Ontario and Manitoba from Canada have actively participated the competition, achieving remarkable results and inspiring many Chinese language enthusiasts to continue their studies.
Consul General Luo congratulated all winners, expressed gratitude to the dedicated teachers for their hard work, and commended the parents for their encouragement and support. He encouraged the students to maintain their enthusiasm for learning Chinese, to appreciate the beauty of the language and the essence of Chinese culture, and to serve as cultural ambassadors fostering exchanges between China and Canada. He also advised that they take advantage of China’s transit visa exemption policy for Canadian citizens to visit China more often and build friendships with more Chinese people.
The participants delivered wonderful artistic performances and experienced various aspects of Chinese culture, including calligraphy and tea appreciation. They also participated in hands-on activities such as writing Spring Festival couplets, making dumplings, and tasting Chinese cuisine. The atmosphere was lively, filled with joy and laughter. The celebration concluded on a high note with all attendees singing the song ‘The Same Song’ together.
Counselor Li Renzhu from Consulate-General and more than 40 representatives of Chinese Bridge Competition Winners and their families, teachers, as well as representatives from Chinese Culture and Education Society and Renison University College attended the celebration.
